First inaugural scholarship award goes to...

Maya Phillips

Jayme and I were so honored to present the inaugural Brian Lee Memorial scholarship to Maya Phillips on Friday, November 25th, 2022, at a University of Saskatchewan Dual Wrestling meet. It's been a while since I attended a wrestling tournament, and I had forgotten the athleticism it takes to be a wrestler. Speed, endurance, flexibility, strength, patience, and intellect. I was in awe watching the matches. It’s an incredible community that I am very proud to be a part of.

Maya is a freshman at the University of Saskatchewan, currently enrolled in Arts and Science, with plans of continuing on to dentistry. She wrote in a letter that… “Wrestling has taught me great lessons and values in life that I can carry through the rest of my life. Brian sounds to have been persistent and resilient, and I can only hope to be anywhere as near as persistent and resilient as he was in life. I am extremely honored to be given this scholarship that will help my sports and academic career continue.”
